SMW12: Meet the Afropolitans

An evening of dialogue on the African diaspora, music, food and the entrepreneurial spirit in the age of social media from Monday night's Social Media Week event left me in awe.


The energy in the room was undeniable. The sea of beautiful hues joined together with a purpose was invigorating.


Kudos to Ngozi Odita of Society HAE for hosting the "Meet the Afropolitans" and bringing everyone together for such an inspiring event. S/o to the panelists for sharing their innovative perspectives and helpful information, Kathleen Boomz, Yolanda Sangweni of Afripop Mag, and Chief Boima.

AFRIKA 21: The Mixtape Project

During the Social Media Week: Meet the Afropolitans event last night, Ngozi Odita of Society HAE announced the recent release of the third installment of the AFRIKA21 The Mixtape project.


What is the Afrika21 Mixtape Project? Afrika21 is the definitive voice of Africa's emerging creative thinkers in music, art & culture. Presently, coverage of the continentʼs fundamental weaknesses - civil war, poverty, and helplessness, overshadow the well of innovation rapidly emerging from Africa and the Diaspora. Afrika21 gives audiences a first hand look at 21st century contemporary African music and culture to create a new dialogue around Africa.


The Afrika21 Mixtape Project is an opportunity to celebrate Africaʼs next wave of musicians, highlight the renaissance taking place on the continent and raise the profile of people and organizations working toward framing a new vision of Africa in the 21st century.

Social Media Week Global Takeover!

This week (Feb 13th-17th) is the 3rd Annual Social Media Week - the largest week long world-wide event dedicated to exploring social media in culture, business, commerce and communities everywhere! 


There are hundreds of events happening in New York, Miami, Hamburg, Hong Kong, London, Paris, San Francisco, Paris, Sao Paulo, Singapore, Toronto and DC. 


Tomorrow, I will be checking out the "Meet the Afropolitans: Digital Media + Culture in Africa" event hosted by Society HAE featuring a panel session, exhibition and, most importantly, plenty networking!
