This past weekend, in its fifth year, Mike Ashley and Dexter Myers have done it again--this time at Shaburi!! Along with selected industry speakers to impart their wisdom to the crowd; the dynamic duo hosted this annual event and have definitely raised the bar on how folks in the music industry network with a purpose, reconnect with colleagues and forge new partnerships!! A fantastic job indeed!
The crowd is reflective of the diversity of NYC and abroad of the independent soul movement--every individual who needed to be in the house was there (in the flesh or in spirit) from fellow promoters to vocalists to musicians to producers to radio personalities to poets...etc...you name the role in making things happen on/off stage, trust us, it was fully represented at this event!
This place wasn't big enough to contain the synergy that went through both rooms at Shaburi (and the hallway, the stairwell, at the bar, lower dining area, near the bathroom...lol..you get the point! haha). Needless to say, the networking was fierce! We met so many new artists that you need to be on the lookout for them at upcoming shows of our monthly spoken word & music series,"The Synch Chronicles." The huge plus was us seeing familiar faces that we have not seen since errrrr last year's Mixer (lol). We vowed never to make that a habit!! :-)
The vibe of creativity was so much alive! The spontaneous (and somewhat planned) awesome artist performances were backed by the incomparable musician/soul artist, Steve Wallace continued to set the place ablaze!
